Racing Incident Report

Shortly after the start, SOUTH CHINA NINETY and ARIGATO bumped. Apprentice C K Tong (JET RISE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that shortly after the start he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount which was hanging in from shifting ground when not clear of SUPER SPECIAL and MAGNIFICENT HORSE, causing those horses to be crowded for room, lose their rightful running and be checked. Having listened to submissions from Apprentice Tong and his allocated trainer, Mr C Fownes, the Stewards believed in this case the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice Tong's licence to ride in races to be suspended until Monday 8 May 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 30 April 2006. In addition, Apprentice Tong was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. At the 1150 Metres, CONSTELLATION was checked when crowded for room between SOUTH CHINA NINETY and WYNDAM PLENTY, both of which shifted ground. Approaching the turn at the 1000 Metres, SOUTH CHINA NINETY was steadied when awkwardly placed between ARIGATO and WYNDAM PLENTY. Also approaching the turn at the 1000 Metres, HUANG PU DRAGON shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of MOONGLOW. As a result of this, MOONGLOW was turned outwards, causing HUANG PU DRAGON to be carried out at the same time as ARIGATO (W C Marwing) shifted in when not properly clear. As a result of this, HUANG PU DRAGON struck the heels of ARIGATO, blundered and almost fell and ARIGATO became unbalanced behind and lost ground. CONSTELLATION and MAGNIFICENT HORSE, which were following, were checked in consequence. Having considered all the circumstances, the Stewards did not believe it appropriate to take any direct action, however, W C Marwing was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. After entering the Back Straight, SUPER SPECIAL, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up. After the 400 Metres, CONSTELLATION was held up and unable to improve when racing between MOONGLOW and SOUTH CHINA NINETY and behind ARIGATO. Over the final 100 Metres, MAGNIFICENT HORSE, which was closing the race off, was steadied and unable to be ridden out when awkwardly placed inside the heels of WYNDAM PLENTY which when giving ground shifted in slightly. Because of this, MAGNIFICENT HORSE was not fully tested. Over the concluding stages, SUPER SPECIAL hung in. This caused B Prebble, its rider, to be disadvantaged in riding his mount out. In the run to the line, MOONGLOW was unable to obtain clear running between A-TACK and CONSTELLATION. Because of this, MOONGLOW was not ridden right out to the end of the race. HUANG PU DRAGON, SUPER SPECIAL, HEALTHY FRUITS and CONSTELLATION were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported ARIGATO had sustained a laceration to the right hind.
