Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, JUST TOO GOOD was examined by the Veterinary Officer at the request of W C Marwing, the horse's rider. The horse was trotted up and after the necessary consultations with W C Marwing was considered suitable to race. HONG KONG GEM was slow to begin. From a wide barrier, FIGS was taken across behind runners at the start. In the early stages, SOARING ANGEL was ridden along vigorously to muster speed. Shortly after the 1200 Metres, AMBITIOUS MARJU (S Dye) fell and dislodged its rider. METRO LEADER (A Delpech), which was following, also fell and dislodged its rider. HONG KONG GEM, which was following, was checked severely to avoid the fallen horses. Inconvenience was also caused to SPEED WINNER, RENA'S WUNDERBAR and FIGS and to a lesser extent MAIN ATTRACTION was also hampered. As S Dye was conveyed to hospital, an inquiry into the reason for AMBITIOUS MARJU and METRO LEADER falling was adjourned to a date to be fixed. A Delpech was examined by the Club's doctor and passed fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. HIGH PRICE made the Home Turn awkwardly. In the early part of the Straight, CROISSANT was held up and had difficulty obtaining clear running behind DURABLE which commenced to give ground. To obtain clear running, CROISSANT shifted to the outside of DURABLE and at that time was bumped by HIGH PRICE which was carried in slightly by SOARING ANGEL. Approaching and passing the 300 Metres, RENA'S WUNDERBAR was shifted wider to obtain clear running. For a short distance after the 300 Metres, SPEED WINNER had difficulty obtaining clear running. When questioned regarding the last start performance of RENA'S WUNDERBAR, the winner of this race, Mr K W Lui, trainer of the horse, said it had always performed better when racing at Sha Tin. He said at Sha Tin the horse is able to be held up for a finishing sprint. He added today RENA'S WUNDERBAR appreciated the apprentice jockey's allowance. B Prebble (DURABLE) explained from the inside barrier he went forward as instructed. He said shortly after the start DURABLE did not feel fluent in its action although it did not appear sore. He said DURABLE continued to feel uncomfortable underneath him in the run and after the 700 Metres commenced to hang out, then on straightening gave ground. He said in his opinion DURABLE today raced "flat". DURABLE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of DURABLE after the race did not show any significant findings. RENA'S WUNDERBAR and HIGH PRICE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported MASTER ABLE had lost its right front plate, MAIN ATTRACTION had lost its left front plate and HONG KONG GEM had sustained a laceration to the right front pastern. Also after the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that AMBITIOUS MARJU had blood present at its nostrils. He said this was as a result of a head trauma caused by the fall. As such, AMBITIOUS MARJU was not deemed to have bled. He also noted the horse to have sustained abrasions to both eyes. Before being allowed to race again, AMBITIOUS MARJU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Following the race, the Veterinary Officer also reported that METRO LEADER was found to be mildly lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, METRO LEADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 26 June 2006)
METRO LEADER, which fell shortly after the 1200 Metres, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time the horse was found to be mildly lame in the left front leg. METRO LEADER was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer B K Ng this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a stiff restricted action with a swollen right hind cannon and bruising to its back. As previously advised, METRO LEADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
