Racing Incident Report
HOUSEMASTER was withdrawn on 20.4.02 on veterinary grounds (sore off fore tendon). Before being allowed to race again, HOUSEMASTER will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. FIREBOLT began awkwardly. BEST OF THE BEST was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, CLIFFHANGER got its head up and shifted out. Also shortly after the start, SOLID CONTACT was momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of CHARMING CITY which shifted in when barely clear. For some distance after this, SOLID CONTACT raced tight inside TENACITY and bumped with that horse on several occasions as a result of TENACITY shifting ground while hanging in. ALL THRILLS TOO made the Home Turn awkwardly. Rounding the turn, OUR CLASS hung out. As a consequence of this, a run was presented outside PRIME WITNESS for CHARMING CITY. Then in the Straight, OUR CLASS continued to hang out. D Dunn (CHARMING CITY) was told he and all other riders must refrain from displaying celebratory gestures until after the winning post. FIREBOLT and TENACITY were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said FIREBOLT had sustained lacerations to both hind pasterns. The horse was trotted up during the examination and did not show any signs of lameness.
