Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the saddling stalls, it was noted EASY GAME had some nasal discharge. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who consulted the trainer and it was considered suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, EASY GAME was again examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. PRETTY TRIO and STAR OF NORTHERN were slow to begin. TRIUMPH began very awkwardly. In the early stages, SMART WIN and FAIRWAY FINDER proved difficult to settle. Near the 1300 Metres, TRIUMPH was steadied away from the heels of DESERT STRIKE which momentarily shifted out. Near the 1200 Metres, STAR OF NORTHERN, which was racing close to the heels of FAST TRACK, became unbalanced and shifted out abruptly when coming together with FAIRWAY FINDER which was racing on its inside. After the 1200 Metres, HIGH SPIRITS was carried wider and MAIN ATTRACTION steadied to avoid the heels of EASY GAME which shifted out abruptly after initially being directed out slightly by its rider. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the 800 Metres, PRETTY TRIO was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FAIRWAY FINDER. SNIPER, which was racing behind PRETTY TRIO, was inconvenienced in consequence. At the 800 Metres, STAR OF NORTHERN was reluctant to hold its position between PRETTY TRIO and TRIUMPH which shifted in slightly. As a result of this, STAR OF NORTHERN dropped to the rear and then afterwards for some distance was reluctant to stride out and finished with the rear. The performance of STAR OF NORTHERN was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, STAR OF NORTHERN must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Near the 600 Metres, QUICK STEP was bumped and carried wider by SNIPER which shifted to the outside of PRETTY TRIO. Just prior to straightening, EASY GAME was bumped by TRIUMPH which after being ridden along raced close to the heels of DESERT STRIKE, then shifted to the outside of that horse. Shortly after straightening, SNIPER and QUICK STEP raced tight and bumped. After the 400 Metres, DIAMOND MOON was steadied and shifted to the outside of MAIN ATTRACTION to obtain clear running. For some distance after straightening, PRETTY TRIO had difficulty obtaining clear running and near the 300 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of DESERT STRIKE to go forward. Near the 200 Metres, A Marcus (SNIPER) momentarily dropped his right rein. Over the concluding stages, QUICK STEP was inclined to lay in. STAR OF NORTHERN and EASY GAME were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of STAR OF NORTHERN and EASY GAME after the race did not show any significant findings. MAIN ATTRACTION, PRETTY TRIO and FAST TRACK were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted SWAGGIE was making an abnormal breathing noise.
