Racing Incident Report

WIN FOR ALL and MONEY STRONG were slow to begin. CHECK MATE began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall, then shifted further and bumped NOBLE HEART. When CHECK MATE began awkwardly, Apprentice M W Leung, the horse's rider, struck his left foot on the barriers. In the early stages, TSUNAMI proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions shifted ground, near the 1000 Metres bumped the hindquarters of MILLION CHASE. Approaching the first turn, MILLION CHASE hung in. Near the 800 Metres, ZERO IN was steadied to avoid the heels of A PLUS FIT (W M Lai) which shifted in when not properly clear. WIN FOR ALL, which was following ZERO IN, became unbalanced and dipped when racing close to the heels of that horse. W M Lai was severely reprimanded and told in future he must ensure he is clear of other runners before shifting ground. At the 800 Metres, CASH KING was unable to hold its position between WIN FOR ALL and GREAT STAR. In the middle stages, ZERO IN hung out. Near the 700 Metres, MILLION CHASE was crowded for room between CASH KING and HAPPY KID, both of which shifted ground. After the 400 Metres, CHECK MATE was momentarily crowded for room inside SUNRISE RAINBOW which shifted in. After the 200 Metres, inconvenience was caused to WIN FOR ALL, SUNRISE RAINBOW, TIRAMISU and HAPPY KID, all of which were carried in by TSUNAMI (A Delpech) which when being ridden out got its head on the side and shifted in. A Delpech was told whilst he did stop riding and straighten his mount, in similar circumstances he would be expected to do so sooner than he did on this occasion. Near the winning post, HAPPY KID was bumped by TIRAMISU which shifted out. C Williams (AFFIRMATIVE ACTION) said he had been asked to take the horse, which had drawn a wide barrier, back to a rearward position to avoid being caught wide on the track. He said he was told to ensure AFFIRMATIVE ACTION settled in the run and in the Straight make sure the horse closed the race off with uninterrupted running. Mr C S Shum, the trainer of A PLUS FIT, said the horse, which was having its 4th race start in Hong Kong today, had previously shown itself not to perform at this stage of its career on the Happy Valley course. He said by reapplying blinkers to A PLUS FIT, it was able to lead over the increased distance which also appeared to suit it on today's track. The explanation of Mr Shum regarding A PLUS FIT's improved performance was accepted. MILLION CHASE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of MILLION CHASE after the race did not reveal any significant abnormalities. WIN FOR ALL and CASH KING were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of WIN FOR ALL after the race failed to show any significant findings. After the race, CASH KING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea and he also noted swelling on the lateral aspect of the left hind cannon. Before being allowed to race again, CASH KING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A PLUS FIT and ZERO IN were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 29 March 2004)
WIN FOR ALL, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. WIN FOR ALL was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer I W Allan yesterday morning. He said at this time the horse was noted to have a stiff and restricted action of both hind limbs and heat in the left front shin. Before being allowed to race again, WIN FOR ALL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
