Racing Incident Report
HANDSOME MAN left the gates awkwardly, as a consequence got back. For some distance near the 400 Metres, BEST EVER was held up behind NAZAKAT II which was weakening. Just on straightening, BEST EVER was shifted out abruptly. In the latter part of the turn, HANDSOME MAN was checked rather severely when disappointed for running between GLASGOW KISS and NAZAKAT II which continued to give ground. E Legrix (EASTERN TYCOON) said his instructions were to lead if possible. He said EASTERN TYCOON left the gates awkwardly, he rode along in an endeavour to carry out the instructions, but the horse did not have the early speed to do so and got back. He pointed out EASTERN TYCOON jumped a shadow on the track near the 1200 Metres and became unbalanced. He did say it was also inclined to be jumping objects returning to scale after the race. When questioned, W M Lai (FIGARO) explained he had been riding the horse in its work and he was of the view FIGARO went into today's race fitter than it was when it won on 9 October 2002. He said the instructions today were pretty much the same, that was to take up a position somewhere towards the front if possible. He pointed out FIGARO in its previous race was drawn 1, today was drawn 8, it left the gates a little awkwardly today and was then crowded slightly between CHUNG ON TREASURE and GLASGOW KISS. He said he rode along in an endeavour to find a position, was unable to do so, was further back than intended, raced wide and at no stage found any cover. He pointed out FIGARO was well beaten before straightening. The performance of FIGARO, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. FIGARO and NAZAKAT II were sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. FIGARO and NAZAKAT II were examined after the race. No abnormalities detected. WISHES and SPECTACULAR TALK were sent for sampling. On pulling up, SPECTACULAR TALK was making an abnormal breathing noise as had been reported previously.
